I have a plan....
by DATA-DOG inwith all of the bat-shit crazy propaganda of late, i'm considering talking to my wife about the cult.
we have had zero religious discussions for two years.
the last discussion ended with ,"you have no beliefs, no personal beliefs, because you change your "beliefs" when the wtbts writes an article.

Ok I'll just shoot from the hip.
How about.......babycakes or (insert kind name here), you know I am going to the RC with you this year, and you know that isn't easy for me. I don't want to fight, because I love you very much, but I also know there are a lot of very over the top things going to be said this year.
I wonder if it would be ok, AFTER the convention, for us to have an open and honest conversation about those things. Free of judgement, and flailing emotion. I promise to hold judgement and my temper/rants, if you promise we can have a real back and forth conversation.
I love you and i know we can do it, its so simple. we should be able to don't you think?
Anyways.......prob what I would do, but just thought I would throw it out there.

I believe someone here reported it to the group, and they are checking to make sure it was properly licensed. (The groups label probably does this without their knowledge 95% of the time).

This is what stood out to me.
It is averred that disfellowshipping is a part of the Scripturally based internal religious procedures of Jehovah’s Witnesses which does not involve the determination of any private or public law rights and is therefore non- justiciable before a secular court.
Let that sink in a bit.

Now this is weird, ever heard of the "Mandela Effect" ??? What if... ?
by Greybeard innow this is weird, ever heard of the "mandela effect" ???
i know how crazy it sounds but i got to tell you, this article about the governing body finally admitting the "faithful slave" was not divinely appointed by jesus in 1919 was epic to me.
like a mandela effect feeling.

Mandela effect it is not. That is just absolute looney tunes.
But i can see that this could seem like something that was"missed". the issue is that they didn't change much. they are still the FDS in 1919. You still have to follow the slave. So in that sense, nothing has changed. That also means that in terms of authority, nothing has really changed. What has changed is the "appointment over the domestics".
I suppose my follow up question would be, does 1919 now hold ZERO significance for JW's?

Verbal sneakery.......great term. It is absolutely fitting.
My wife and I left, have not joined another religion, didn't get a pound of flesh out of them as we went, and are the same funloving happy go lucky p[eople we always were (but better). Somehow, I still lost my oldest and dearest friends uncerimoniously. they even went through the trouble to call me and tell me they were doing this (or write a letter).
So are their actions not endorsed by the branch?
I guess that is where they would pull the "well every Christian has to make their own choice in regards to who they consider good association".
Or maybe its because i left for principled reasons, not because i was "weak".
Either way the double talk is nuts. But......its their website so whats to be done.

I feel frustrated
by BlackWolf inhello all, things for the most part have been somewhat better for me because my parents haven't talked about baptism or anything recently.
i got a scholarship to go to art camp for a few weeks which has been fun (since its free, my parents didn't refuse) but it has also been very nervewracking for me.
i haven't been around any non jws for more than a year and its like being in a different world, a world where people are actually real and genuine and not mindless drones.

I dont have a lot to add, but you see 100% sure that your father is not going to allow you to hang out with these new friends.
Could you be wrong about that? Cant hurt to ask him, and explain how important it is to make friends to you. Explain to him how awkward you feel, and that you have connected with some people and want them in your life.
Hes your dad.......hopefully he will listen.

A question JWs almost never ask, but should
by slimboyfat init occurs to me, if i was starting from scratch choosing a religion or belief system to join, there's one good question i should like answered first:.
does this religion promote a way of life and view of the world that would be satisfying even if not a single word of its doctrines are true?
if jws honestly answered that question i doubt many would say it's a good choice.

David Jay for the win. I never thought of my childhood hall as the fornicated love child between early 70's dept store catalogs.......until now!
Anyone mentally in, will fall into the "this is the best life ever" thing. I was always taught and i quote....."even if this wasnt the truth it would still be the best way to live."
So im not sure if i agree with the OP.

DESTROYING the Governing Body’s claim of authority
by TerryWalstrom indestroying the governing body’s claim of authority.
begin at the beginning.
what source authority did early christians have?.

Great research. Although getting a JW to believe M Russell came up with the faithful and wise servant trick might be a stretch.
I was able to speak to a friend yesterday and get a tiny edge in on "authority". I asked him if jesus when he ascended said he has been given ALL authority in heaven and on earth (Matt 28:19,20). He agreed.
I then asked him if Jesus ever gave this authority to someone else.
Silence.
